celebrate the boy–pixie hat!

yesterday morning, i woke up about an hour before everyone else and i wasn’t groggy, so i decided to get up a sneak in a little sewing project. i knew just what i wanted to do! i’d seen the “snow pixie hat” tutorial and pattern last week when i was looking through all of the celebrate the boy posts and fell in love.  it’s a super easy and quick pattern.  the longest part of the project is making the “bias tape” to finish the edges.  i also chose to use a snap closure instead of ties (i thought it’d be less likely to just get pulled off) and while it worked beautifully, i can see how the ties would allow for greater flexibilty with making the hat fit a little tighter.  i used a sweater from my prodigious felted sweater stash and the tiny scrappy remains of a stripey t-shirt that had mostly turned into pants already.  the happy baby wore it on an outing to the capitol this morning.  i think he actually liked it.

and here’s a little video i made while playing around with some new features on imovie.  apologies for my light treatment of a very serious political issue.  i simply have no happy stuff to say about some of the changes our state government is trying to make and some of the amazingly elementary school tactics that have taken place over the past few days.  although i am in awe of the fortitude of the peaceful, enormous crowds that have gathered to voice their dissent and am glad that we, in our very small way, could add our voices to that shout.
