sweet peas

i’ve decided that nothing much beats cool, early summer mornings walking around the farmer’s market before the crowds arrive. granted, some of the vendors were still setting out their wares, but there’s so much duplication that i don’t think i missed anything. i bought 3 bouquets of sweet peas (they threw in a few extra “canterbury bells” and a ranunculus too) in beautiful shades of lavender, dark purple, red, pink and one white.

i love to bury my nose in a big bunch of sweet peas. they have such a wonderful fragrance–today’s was pretty subtle, but i think they smelled stronger when i got home. that’s one of the few things i miss about goshen. i had a good friend who had sweet peas growing wild in her yard and she loved for me to come and pick big bunches of them whenever i wanted to. they always smelled amazing and i love the blousy way a bouquet of them looks. generally, i’m not big into ruffles, but i’ll make an exception for these.
