a quick facelift for my lowly kitchen floor mat

my kitchen mat was starting to look a little sad.  (sorry.  i keep completely failing to take “before” pictures, so you’ll just have to believe me when i tell you that it was stained, the fabric on top was pilling and since it’s not launderable and i wasn’t going to scrub it every time i dropped food on it, it was just going to get worse.  it originally looked something like this, but with a different design on the top.)  so the other day, when i was out shopping, i found these vinyl placemats which vaguely remind me of this lovely line of things i can’t afford and they were on sale.  i decided to attempt a mash-up.  i figured i couldn’t make my kitchen mat look much worse!  after consulting the “this to that” website (brilliant resource, by the way, if you ever need to glue something to something else) i chose sobo glue.  i slathered it onto my mat (taking extra care to get the very edges of the mat), then placed one of the placemats on top of the glue and left it alone for about an hour.  seemed secure, so i glued another placemat and a skinny strip from a third placemat on and let them dry for the rest of the day.  when they were dry, i trimmed the edges with my rotary cutter and now i have a nice, clean kitchen floor mat!

it feels nice on bare feet and today when the boy spilled green smoothie on it, i just wiped it off with a cloth–no soaking in!   no residue!  i love it!
