a few nights ago, as i was walking home from the corner store, i looked up and saw the man in the moon “clear as day.” his features were a lovely shade of blue and he looked just like one of those old-fashioned printing press type pictures (the ones where the lines that make up the picture sort of look like fingerprints). seeing him smiling down at me reminds me instantly of two things. one was the night (or was it very early morning?) one year at church retreat in texas hill country where i lay on a stone bluff with friends, looking up into the night sky. there was a clear man in the moon, but there were also very fast moving, wispy clouds and i could have sworn that as the clouds moved across the face of the moon, they made it look like he was laughing. and thinking of a laughing man in the moon always makes me think of the song “heavenly” as sung by harry connick jr. on the “we are in love” album and also of the male vocal quartet (college friends of mine) who sang the song once on my recommendation at a coffee house. it is a very cute song and one i don’t mind bouncing around in my head for a few days along with these pleasant memories.
(p.s. i put the link to the album here so that you could listen to a clip of the song, not because i necessarily advocate purchasing the album….does anyone know if it’s possible to somehow add the music from the whole song to this blog entry?)
