so, on a whim, i decided to try the “no shampoo” or “no ‘poo” method out about three weeks ago. i don’t have any particular convictions about using shampoo, i was mostly just curious to see what would happen. i wash my hair with about a tablespoon of baking soda mixed with just enough water to make a paste, rinse well with water and then “condition” it with about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar dissolved in about a cup of water. (there are many, many formulas and theories out there, this was just one i seemed to see fairly frequently)
so far, i haven’t noticed a big change in my hair (except maybe a few more short (broken?) hairs right around my face, near my part? maybe less vigorous rubbing with the baking soda….) and my biggest complaint is that i really hate how it feels to rub baking soda into your hair. like really sandy beach hair (although then the apple cider vinegar rinse feels amazingly soft and smooth!). and also, i miss the suds. oh–and vinegar does nothing to fight static.
i just read a bunch of stuff on this live journal forum about the process and i might experiment with “water only” and see what that does. have any of you ever experimented with this concept? or heard of it?
