fajitas & films

last night, mr. h-s and i hosted our annual(ish) fajita party with fajita meat from h-e-b in san antonio (stored in our freezer, just waiting for the right time for the party). what a great time! what great food! we decided to throw a little extra memorial day weekend twist on the party this year and after everyone was stuffed to the gills with delicious food, we went outside (where, it was a bit chilly still) and watched award winning short films from 2005 projected onto a “screen” on the side of our carport. our gang of friends don’t get together to watch movies all that often (we’d rather chat) but this was different than your average movie night and it worked pretty well! i am very much looking forward to having our back yard fenced in and properly patio’d so that we can host more easily outdoors.

our new kitchen island and dishwasher worked really well for the party! i love that i could load up all of those greasy, filthy dishes and push a button and have them be clean in the morning. and the island drew rave reviews (and worked quite well as a buffet!). it gained a few small stains after the party… do i sand them off or do i just count them as “character” and work more oil into the wood? i am so excited about the recent changes we made to the kitchen. here are some photos to illustrate the differences.

what the kitchen looked like when we bought the house. note the “jalousie” windows in the dining room:

here is a photo from just after we’d finished the first round of renovations:

here is a photo of our kitchen as it looks now, complete with new island, appliances and new windows in the dining room (please ignore the second stove lurking in the dining area–it will be moving out next wednesday):
